Sigma 150-500mm F5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM Pentax Performance
The performance of the Sigma 150-500mm F5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM Pentax camera lens is truly impressive. The Sigma 150-500mm F/Sigma 150-500mm delivers excellent resolution at all focal lengths, even wide open! It’s also got an incredible amount of detail in the center that holds up well into the mid and corner portions of the frame too. Stopping down doesn’t really seem to improve this lens’ performance much either; it seems like finding better results is more about location within the frame than anything else.
Build and Handling Quality
The build quality is solid, with a metal mount and included lens hood. It’s got a nice weight to it as well without being too heavy or cumbersome for the average photographer. The Sigma 150-500mm F/Sigma 150-500mm is pretty big, but doesn’t feel overbearing on the camera body either.
The autofocus on the Sigma 150-500mm F5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM Pentax lens is pretty good. It’s not the fastest focusing lens around, but it does lock on quickly and accurately for most subjects.
In terms of sharpness, this lens is truly one of the best out there. It’s not super sharp wide open, but it does get pretty darn close at f/11 and smaller. The Sigma 150-500mm F/Sigma 150-500mm also has an excellent macro mode that allows for some impressive detail reproduction when you need to shoot up close too!
Vignetting is very minimal on this lens; it’s really not that noticeable in most cases. Stopping down does seem to exacerbate the issue, however, even though the Sigma 150-500mm F/Sigma 150-500mm is still pretty sharp at f/11 and smaller.
Chromatic aberration is very well controlled on this lens, with only a slight amount of purple fringing when shooting high contrast subjects in the corners. Overall it’s pretty minimal and easy to correct if you do notice any issues while editing your images post image capture.
Distortion is about average on the Sigma 150-500mm F/Sigma 150-500mm. There’s a little bit of barrel distortion at all focal lengths that gets worse as you move towards 500 mm, but it’s pretty easily correctable in post processing if necessary.
Like we mentioned earlier, the image quality of this lens is truly phenomenal. At all focal lengths it’s pretty sharp, even wide open! Stopping down to around f/11 does seem to improve things a bit more though, as the Sigma 150-500mm F/Sigma 150-500mm becomes tack sharp from corner to corner then. The colors that come out of this lens are also really great; we found that they were realistic and lifelike, with good saturation as well.
Bokeh is very smooth when shooting with the Sigma 150-500mm F/Sigma 150-500mm, but it’s also not overly creamy either. It does a great job of separating your subject from the background in most cases though!
